Wendy Axelrod PhD

Wendy is a recognized expert in manager-driven, performance-centered people development. During 30 years, as a corporate executive, external consultant, and executive coach, she has helped organizations drive substantial development of people, resulting in greater performance and satisfaction of their workforce, managers and companies. She has worked with thousands of managers and leaders both through workshops and leadership coaching.

Wendy helps leaders learn what it really takes to be an exceptional development manager, weaving development and performance seamlessly. As the co-author of Make Talent Your Business: How exceptional managers develop people while getting results, her research has identified 5 practices which distinguish these developmental managers. Her works have appeared in SmartBriefs on Leadership, AMA’s Moving Ahead, Leader to Leader, Leadership Excellence, ASTD Management Development Handbook and the Journal of HR People and Strategy. Wendy speaks at conferences for organizations including: The Conference Board, Society for Human Resource Management, Human Resource Planning Society,, and, American Society of Training and Development, as well as corporate events. Her contributions have been recognized with awards from client organizations as well as the professional community.

Wendy is part of the world-class faculty who work with AthenaOnline, the leading provider of short, video based employee and leader development. She is also part of the 2014 faculty of the Institute for Management Studies (IMS).

Wendy’s clients include companies in the pharmaceuticals, financial, energy, manufacturing, and high-tech sectors such as: GlaxoSmithKilne, Merrill Lynch, Novo Nordisk Inc, Shire, Duke Energy, American Family Insurance, Deloitte, Vanguard, Occidental, sanofi aventis, Merck, and DuPont. Sample consultations include: action learning series for a geographically dispersed management helping to equip their workforce with new competitive capabilities, extensive review of Talent Management practices and design of Talent Management strategy; design of a business transformation effort including facilitation of a strategic off-site meeting of global leaders of this European firm; executive coaching for top leaders geared toward significantly growing the business.

Serving as a Human Resources Executive during her 16-year tenure at Sunoco, Inc., Wendy led the functions of Leadership and Professional Development, Organization Change, Talent Management, and Strategic Human Resource Planning. Sunoco’s executive team capitalized on her capabilities to link HR initiatives to corporate strategy and business results.

Wendy holds a Ph.D., from Colorado State University in Organizational and Industrial Psychology, and a B.S. from Drexel University, where she was the recipient of M. M. Creese Award for Most Outstanding Senior Woman in University. She also completed Columbia University’s Advanced Program in Organizational Development/Human Resources Management.

Passionate about development and professional growth, she is the volunteer creator and moving force behind the renowned Philadelphia area Mentoring Program for HR Professionals.
